My has is been ages! Almost a year I think? My blog has fallen by the wayside again. Lots has happened and many projects completed over time between postings!
Quilting has has captured my heart these days, and a generous gift of a new yarn stash has inspired so many new fall knitting projects. I also have been behind the camera quite a bit, experimenting and learning new things. I have even done a little traveling. Solo! Can you believe it!?
Its been fun. I really should share more. Perhaps this is a step in that direction.

But it all worked out- and turned out just right. I am glad I stuck it out.

Our garden has really been going strong this year. Aside from our leaf lettuce and herbs, this was our first harvest from our little garden. They are dwarf carrots and taste a gazillion times better than any carrot from the market. Our zucchini and cucumbers are doing well too. We also have quite a few tomatoes ready to ripen. I can't wait!
Just like knitting and sewing, there's just something so rewarding about creating something from your hard work or your own hands- and sometimes yummy too!

GreyGrey (as we lovingly call him) is getting so very big. He will be celebrating his First Birthday the end of July!
We are all enjoying the warmer weather, toting gear and baby pools and swim diapers to the grandparents for lots of fun and entertainment, and dare I say relaxing? So worth it. He's all about a good splash in the baby pool. And I am all about a happy 10 month old.

More Sewing

I think its the change in weather, but I find that during the warmer months, my sewing machine just calls to me. I have been really into garment sewing and working with my serger especially. I still have plans for a new scrap quilt also.

I made this shirt from some leftover and recycled materials from this Built By Wendy pattern. It ended up being a strange fit for me but it fit Amanda really well. She gladly accepted the gift of a new shirt.

She had to model for pictures to get the shirt though. Tee hee. I will be making one of these for me (with longer sleeves) as soon as I finish some sweet little newborn gowns for a lovely momma to be.

I picked up One Yard Wonders and fell in love with this pattern. I also fell in love with this boldly floral and brightly colored fabric. The two together just melted my little sewing heart.
Whilst not the most flattering thing I have ever made, I do adore it. I hope to toss it on over a swimsuit or under a cardigan this summer. We shall see.

Now that my out of the home job has slowed to a near halt, I have started focusing again on my little place in the Etsy world. Ten sock bags, two wristlets, and a mini change purse later, and my little shop looks *sorta* full again. Yay for productivity. I think I may have to cast on a new pair of socks to celebrate.

I am such a bad blogger. I keep meaning to get here and share what's new but its tough! When it comes down to it, when I find a minute or two I'd much rather be knitting a few rows or sewing a few stitches than blogging. Being a momma with two kids and a part time job, I am finding time is scarce. That means blogging went by the wayside. I admire you lovelies out there that can do it all, because I sure cant! But I have been crafting and finding time to sneak some projects in here and there. I am also really enjoying and focusing on the world of photography, and I have tried and fallen in love with some new things as well.
So yeah, I'm still here, crafting away. I promise to try and stop by and share more of it with you over the summer, and maybe some kid pictures too. :)

I wonder sometimes if its just crazy to even try to knit when also attempting to care for a rambunctious toddler and a very lovey newborn. I suppose will just have to take my chances, because I am wicked excited to wear this one day. I will let that be my motivation to press on. Wish me luck.

But not for much longer! We will be having our little boy on Monday. In the meantime, we are getting everything ready and even I managed to start and finish a few projects.

My most favorite model in the world.

I did a little stash diving on a whim and this shawl was my carry around project this summer. I really enjoyed working on it. I was lacking some knitting mojo and this helped a lot. It really made me happy I decided to purchase the Noro sock yarn way back when. It really did the trick.

I also started a pair of socks, which I'd love to finish before little guy arrives, and finished the crocheted blanket I started waaaay back when. A really fun project, but next time I am weaving the ends in as I go. There were oh so many.

I went to the Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival last weekend and picked up this awesome hand spun, hand dyed yarn by an absolutely lovely gal many of you probably know. I got enough to make simple roll brimmed hats for Kendall and I.

I swore I would focus on the blanket exclusively, but I couldn't resist casting on more stuff. The knitting, she called to me. I missed my needles. The weather got suddenly chilly and Kendall needed mittens and a new hat. I had the perfect yarn in my stash left over from past projects for just the occasion.

I couldn't. On the upside, the guilt of my affair had me in a hurry to finish. I did most all of the knitting over the weekend- I even knit a little I-cord at lightening speed Sunday evening- seemed just in time for Monday's tiny snowfall, which Kendall enjoyed tremendously.

I asked our new landlord (we are renting again) if I could come by our new place and do some measuring before the move. Gotta make sure we can get our stuff in and out! I brought the camera along to take some pictures of our new place, so I thought I would share.
The current tenant hasn't started packing yet.

While I really wished we were buying, with the economy the way it is we thought it best to wait it out and see what happens.
I can't wait until its ours!

That said, I couldn't be happier with this place- it is a gorgeous space with lots of room and beautiful woodwork and tons of charm. I'd love to show you more, but I gotta wait until its ours!

I am not going to ask, because I totally know you voted. Instead I am going to share with you my newest project.

It looks like its maybe a lot, but I still have a long ways to go.

Granny squares that will eventually be a blanket for our new home. We found a nice place close to the city where we can park our little family for a while. I am excited- but impatient. We aren't moving until the very end of the month. I am going stir crazy!

So these six by six inch little guys have been keeping me occupied- and helping me calm down after stressful nights at work. I hope to finish by the time we move. Four squares a day for 25 days and a few days for seaming and I should have a finished blanket!

I finally finished and blocked Daniel's sweater. This morning it was all dry ready for wear- and a photo session of course!

We both love it- Dan especially. He didn't even grumble or complain when I asked to take pictures. I am so glad he is happy with it. I made it with lots of love- and lots of math. (Okay, not lots of math, but math was involved.)

Ever have one of those days with nothing to do and no plan? Well today just happened to be one of those days. Kendall and I hopped in the car and drove around and sang Bingo and This Little Pig and such things until we eventually found ourselves at a local mall we don't normally visit. We chatted briefly and decided we would go to Macys to find some dinnerware for our new place. Instead we found...

We had turned the corner into Macy's and there it was. Who knew? I sure didn't, but boy am I one happy girl. I packed my poor carry-on full of Lush goodies from Providence. Now I needn't travel far for such luxuries. Bless your hearts Lush. Thank you for providing me with new ways to spend money I don't have. So much for the dinnerware. Though, there will be plenty of fragrant baths to go 'round.

Weekend Knitting.

I made this hat en route to Providence and finished while I was there. I left it as a gift for the lovely Lulu. She enjoyed the colors more than I, and they looked so much better on her. I had so much fun knitting it and I couldn't stop thinking about the endless possibilities of stripes. There's just something about Noro that does that to a person I think.

So this week while I had some child free time I stopped by my local LYS, I picked out some new colors for myself. Phoncible

And over the weekend I made my own more neutral, earthy version of Phoncible. I adore it. I suspect it will get lots of wear through fall and winter. Always a good thing. I think I will make Kendall a little hat to match.

When I took my extended weekend trip, yarn was definitely in the mix. We visited 2 yarn shops. One of which was this lovely place in the outskirts of Providence (I think) called Fresh Purls.
It is long and thin but it has some great stuff. Not a ton of sweater amounts though.

Lots of things going on in the Messie realm. House hunting, job advancing, potty training, sweater knitting, trip taking. Its been quite exciting here. Though I have to admit a little frightening also. Even the sweater knitting. Especially the potty training.I start my new job the same week I take my very first plane trip ever (I am so scared!) to a place I have never been to visit a good friend. I started my husband's sweater around the same time potty training commenced, and we still haven't found the right house. I hope its out there somewhere- close to the city!

The next to be added to the list is finding a smaller, brain consuming project for the plane ride- and relaxing.

The Ravelympics were fun but unsuccessful. I didn't manage finish my sweater- and I am not terribly surprised. I am not so great with huge commitments where there is a time-line involved. I was hoping to prove dear husband wrong since he was convinced the sweater would indeed be unfinished at the end of the Olympic games. Oh well. I did finish my pair of socks- though they weren't a Ravelympic project.

What a nice pair of socks for fall. Lightweight, simple, just enough. They knit up quickly and the colors kinda made me excited for the leaves to change and the weather to cool.

I am! I managed to piece together enough of my warm colors for this quilt. All of the fabrics were leftovers from sock pouches and various things for my Etsy shop. I hadn't the heart to throw any of them away so I saved them all in a rather large Rubbermaid container and hoped to one day find a use for most them.
I think this is a great start to destashing the scraps. This was made with most all of my warm colors. Its my first 'finished' quilt and heavens have I learned a lot. Things like- maybe you shouldn't use such tiny bias tape and fusible batting isn't all its cracked up to be (and neither of them work all that fabulous together.) I think the next will be better, but I still think this one is cute- even with its little mistakes. Its made with lots of love and lots of scraps. It will be for Kendall, but I thought I'd test it out first.

$3 for 2 yards of fabric, $1.59 for the thread on sale, and I found the pattern for $ .99 about 6 months ago.

It was awesome to knit from my stash. I have had this yarn since Christmas and no real plan for it. Thank God for Ravelry! The hat's a little different than what I normally go for, but I am pleased. I am not sure how much I will be wearing it these days (even though its cotton) since it tends to be humid, but it will make a great fall hat for sure. I think I will get some solid tan or brown and make one for Dan and perhaps a nice fun color for Kends too.

Lots of personal crafting going on these days. I found this awesome tutorial and had the perfect fabric. The project turned out fabulous and the directions were so easy and thorough. Shirring was so much easier than I had anticipated. I will definitely be making more. Kends calls it her princess dress.

As for knitting, I think finishing one of a few long-overdue projects (Annie's belated birthday present) sparked the knitterly roots in me. I have cast on, frogged and cast on again a new pair of socks.

But I must wait to start- Its going to be my Ravelrympic project. I am doing the 'Sweater Sprint.'

Your belated birthday present trumps this fine nation's Independence Day. How's that for love? I haven't heard from you in ages and miss you terribly and I am not sure you still read my blog, but your mom told me you were busy so I forgive you. I mean, you forgive me every year when I pronounce your birthday present will once again be late so its only fair really.

Your mom also told me you are not coming home until the fall so I am facing my fears- I am shipping your handmade gift that I finished. (Tomorrow of course, since today is a day most government employees get a day off.) I want you to get a sneak peek in case they never make it across the ocean. I could be awesome and wait until after you get them, but where's the fun in that?

I took full advantage of the Joann Fabrics Firefly Frenzy sales this week. I must have gone at least 4 times this week (to 3 different stores mind you) but it was well worth it. I got stacks and stacks of fabric for next to nothing. Lots of stuff for dresses, t-shirts, shorts, you name it.

The spring fabrics and prints were a whopping sixty percent off so I snagged some fabulous linen blend and made hand towels for the kitchen. I used some scrap fabric from my gigantic (and I'm talking HUGE) box of leftovers from past Messie items and finished the edges with the serger. I wanted to score some cool looking Maxi-lock thread, but I couldn't find any. Sniff.
Anyways.
I do still knit, if you can believe it. I am almost done with a belated birthday gift for a friend and am getting ready to start this... coincidentally in the same colors as the towels. I cant wait. Its not too hot to knit a sweater is it? Is it ever?

I feel especially awful because Hubby keeps teasing me, but he bought me a serger the day before Father's day. He is the best and way too good to me. I was going to put it on layaway at the sewing station/store, but he insisted we just buy it right then. So we did! I have been tinkering ever since.
Ever wonder how they get those funky looking loopy stitches on the inside (and sometimes outside) hems of your favorite tee shirts? What about the neat little stitch you see when you cuff your jeans? Yep, that's a serger!
I am hoping to get more into sewing with knits, and this machine is the way to go. Its a whole different sort of beast. I mean, I could make bathing suits! (Not that I would want to, but its good to know I could if I wanted.) I practiced on some squares first, making some glorified terry cloth squares for various things, then moved onto a few diapers, to try some more curves. So its definitely not my best work, but I am getting the hang of it. Needless to say, I haven't knit in a few days. And for the record, I did get Daniel a Father's day gift. Though a Starbucks card sure doesn't equal a serger, he loved it all the same.

Long After the Vacation is Over.

I finished my vacation knitting! The Frock Cami was a super quick knit and could have been finished in less than a week, but I really didn't work on it but here and there. It was nice to work on during stressful hockey games. Like tonight.

Not the best pictures, I know. I wasn't in the frame of mind to try and this was really the best anyone could do for me. Thanks Dan. Sigh. Oh the blur. I will try and post nicer ones. Maybe. Probably not.

This was a pretty straight forward, simple knit. If I knit it again, I would make the decreases more spaced out at the bottom to make it less triangular in shape. I would also come up with a better way to seam the straps to the back because whip stitch is not the prettiest with reverse stockinette. I did wear it today, and it didn't feel heavy like I thought it would. It hides all sorts of bumps and blobs, which is my kinda tank top. And I must say- I love the feel of Shine knitted up, its so soft and 'flowy.' All in all it was a good stash buster and wardrobe addition. Make one!

Vacation is almost over. Sniff. It was a blast and I will be sad tomorrow when Daniel finally returns to work. We are gearing up for the Stanley Cup Finals game 2 and hoping for a Pens win. I thought before things got too heated and we started leaping on couches that I'd update the blog.

Since I spent the 4 days of my Chincoteague vacation knitting that tank from Interweave Spring, I had a real craving to do some sewing when I got home. My dad had bought some of this fabric and asked that I make little Kends something with it, so I whipped up this little dress for her today after I sewed a few diapers and a bag for my Etsy Store.

Don't mind the wrinkles. Maybe I should try a drapier fabric next time?

It was my first attempt at buttonholes, which were a little confusing at first. I am so glad I practiced on scraps first. Yikes.

Gotta love the matching orange butterfly clips and Dora Band- Aid!
She almost didn't like it. I thought we were going to have another repeat of the sweater incident, but she warmed up to the idea of it. I am glad because now I can make oodles more and know that she will actually wear them!

This is our first time visiting Chincoteague, Virginia but its been a great place to us so far. Kendsie is especially having a blast.

There's still plenty to see and much more relaxing to do so I will catch up with you when I get back.

My talented friend Janet strikes again! This time, with really cute spring/summer totes and other fun goodies. Super crafty Janet and her daughter Heather found this awesomely cute fabric that they said reminded them of Kendall and I and surprised Kendsie and I with a package filled with not only the matching mommy and baby ice cream totes made out of this awesome fabric, but other matching goodies as well. Kendall got a marker roll and I got a DPN needle roll. The rolls coordinate perfectly with our bags. Kendsie really loves carrying hers around and stopping to pull out all of her colors and drawing in the coloring book that was all nestled inside of her tote. Fabulous I tell you! Aren't they the best? I have awesome friends for sure. And can I just say Janet made that Ice Cream applique from scratch!? Be sure to check out their Etsy shops. They are talented gals.

I wonder if there should be a rule similar to the 'never knit your boyfriend a sweater' rule for knitting for toddler children. The whole time I was knitting she wanted nothing to do with it. I think she is actually afraid of the sweater.

So it was no surprise that when it was time to try the finished piece on for pictures she freaked. So I bribed her. Sort of.
I told her if she went and stood by the window and drew on her chalkboard (because the light is good there,) Mommy would take it off. And eventually Mommy did- 20 minutes and 61 pictures later.

Yesterday, Hubby and I had our long awaited tattoo appointment with Tim at Pinnacle Tattoo. Dan was getting his current piece finished, and I started my chest piece. I have wanted it for quite some time, but was really not sure what I wanted until a few months ago.

I also had to wait until after my swim season to book an appointment, because its not the greatest thing to spend lots of time in the pool after a new tattoo. Well yesterday, my wait was finally over and I am left with the gorgeous beginnings of my most visible permanent body art.

And I love it. In the center is a peony and there are 2 little peonies pointing up towards each of my shoulders and there's water throughout, flowing from the center, going up and out. I can't wait to get the color. I am so excited. So hopefully this WIP will be finished sometime in late May.
Since I went first yesterday, I spent most of Dan's session working on my newest WIP, Kendall's bolero, made with the Cascade 220 Heathers I bought at Bloomin' Yarns a few weeks ago. I got a lot done. I picked up for the sides and bottom and got through the buttonhole. Next up is the collar, then the sleeves then hopefully it fits! I had changed the gauge a little bit so you never know.

All in all, yesterday was a pretty fabulous day. I got to spend time with Daniel, get tattooed, and knit, all in the same day. Fun times, I tell you!

I wanted to finish this bag for the next grocery shopping trip, and I did!

I tested it with Kendall's play food first, just in case. It worked just fine. It was ready for its first trip to Whole Foods.
And it did well! It held the apples, potatoes, and the onions with a bit of room to spare. Its great how it just molds to the shape of what you put in it. Very practical.
If you feel like you want to make one as well, you can find the pattern here. Its a quick knit and you fast knitters could probably finish it in an evening. I did make a few modifications to the pattern. Mainly, I knit the body in the round, then did a 3 needle bind off. You can find the details on my Ravelry page.
I will definitely be making more of these. Perhaps with a lighter weight in linen or an organic cotton even. Go Green!

Kendall, Amanda, and I thought we would celebrate today's warm weather with a walk to the local park. On our way, we found a five dollar bill on the street. We looked for potential droppers of the bill, and found none. So, we decided to take a trip to Big Daddy's Donut shop with our newly found wealth.

They have the best donuts ever! They are so fresh and there's lots of variety to choose from. In the words of Kendsie, "Soooooo good!"

Kendall had a chocolate chocolate with sprinkles, I had a raspberry filled, Manda had a vanilla cake with sprinkles, and we all split a lemon filled. So yummy! We even had enough leftover for some sweet tea and coffee.

This weekend was pretty fun. Championships is a 2 day meet, with the awards banquet in between on Saturday night. I am totally exhausted. Swimming just isn't as easy as it used to be, I tell yah.
So, I managed all of my best (master's) times this year, some first and second place finishes in my age group, a 2nd place for my small teams division in the women's teams (all by myself,) a little knitting here and there, and lots and lots of fun. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I swim with the greatest group of people. Don't tell Jim though.
Anyway, I thought I would share with you guys. It's not knitting related, but I love the pool almost as much these days. Now its time for a nice cup of tea and an early bed time.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Ours is growing quite well. After a week of germination and all but the eggplant and the peppers have sprouted. How exciting to see the progress! I can't wait to have fresh veggies.

My moseys are also growing. I couldn't wait to cast on when I saw them in the new Knitty. I think they will look great over a pair of skinny jeans with some flats.

I love this Pumpkin Spice color, its so warm with lots of reds and oranges and even little specks of blue in it. Gotta love Cascade 220 Heathers. I sure do! This is already the second warmer and I started the first on Tuesday. I hope to finish this leg tonight. Then the pom poms and icord, and then its time to make some market bags!

I wish I could say that I posed them, but I just happened to glance under Kendsie's toddler bed to find some of her dolls in very provocative positions. Naked.
Apparently, when the Kendall is away, the dolls will play? Dirty? Do you think they will now start multiplying at alarming rates? I will let you know.

I have been laying low these days. I have been knitting, but not anything big. I have been working mostly mindless (yet satisfying) dishcloths and using my (knitting)free time to research things like organic eating and container gardening.

I am wondering if its because I am so sick of winter and flu season? Maybe.
I think I want to knit or crochet some cotton grocery bags next.
Kendall and Daniel and I have also been enjoying the outdoors when the weather allows it. We are getting antsy for more outside adventures, that's for sure. We were so lucky because it was a beautiful and relatively warm day today, so after dinner we took a ride to an awesome local park. We had the whole place to ourselves and it was marvelous- and fun!

Knuck You, Knucks.

Your cuffs are too loose, Knucks. I should have knit your ribbing on smaller needles, but somehow this escaped me. I am still debating on whether I should rip them out or leave them as is.

I suppose I wont know until I choose to look at them again. I have no idea when that will be. I did have my father try them on, since he has rather large hands, and they fit him nicely- aside from the ribbing that is. I am pretty sure Clay's hands are a little bigger (he's to be the knucks recipient), but the wrists, again, I'm just not sure. Man hands vary. Especially man wrists. What would you do?
Start a new project? That's what I was thinking. I pretty much can't stand anything I have on the needles right now, so its time to add yet another project into the mix.

I took a trip to Bloomin Yarns, since its the place to go (in western PA) when one needs some distraction and inspiration. Well, in my very strong opinion.

I left with a few rows knit on my Forest Canopy Shawl, and three hanks of Cascade 220 Heathers in Flame, and still no idea what to make. I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I swore I would finish some stuff before I cast on other stuff. Yeah, right. That never happens. Now I have like- the max on the needles. A total of 4 projects (not including the hibernating/most likely to be frogged ones,) the newest being a pair of Knucks for a friend, with some lovely lovely yarn Lisa had given me a little while back. I am already planning on buying more of this fabulous, Elizabeth Lavold Silky wool. Its so nice. Perfect for this pattern too. Thanks Lisa!

You think this is an okay color for a guy? Its almost tweedy. I love it, but that doesn't mean a boy would. Its okay- be honest.
Also, did you notice? Is the picture quality a little better? I got a new camera! Hubs has let me welcome a brand new DSLR into our lives. Specifically, a Canon Rebel Xti, and I am in love. I used to really be into photography back in the day, but lost my old school SLR to the flood waters of Hurricane Ivan. (Yeah, that is our old house in the first picture. If you look at the rug you can see the watermark showing how high it was.) My camera was definitely not our main concern at the time having lost so much, but let me tell you how nice it is to finally have a decent camera back in my hands! Here's a fun shot just for you.

I thought I would share my most awesomest of birthday gifts with you. It arrived in the mail with a happy birthday note, and I knew as soon as I saw it it had to be from my dear friend and new knitter, Manda. (She is apocalips33 on Ravelry, you should make her your friend!)

"I need a half gram of wool quick! I'm starting to come down..."

This little piggy bank, clad with its witty and sarcastic commentary makes me laugh than more than I care to admit. Well done Manda. If you were interested in your own Knitting Fund Bank, I believe she found it on Blue Q. Which, I might add, is a pretty cool site.
In other birthday news, I finished my Rusted Root on said day.

Its been getting a little love here and there, and somehow, that got the job done. Started it in September and finished in February. Not many mods. I had to fix the sleeves because the size I chose (M) had them off centered, so I centered them. I added some length to the bottom as well, and did less ribbing than the pattern called for at the bottom. I also knit the ribbing in the same size as the sweater because I read it was coming out too tight in the smaller needles. That's about it, by way of pattern altering.

Used the recommended Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Grey Dawn

Its a great first knit for anyone looking to try a garment (ahem- attention LULU!) and its also a nice piece of wardrobe. I can tell I will wear it a lot. So, Happy Birthday to me from me eh?
Next up in my knitting world is an Uncle Argyle Scarf for Daniel, and a Wisp for me. Or someone. I just want to make it. Its gonna be a good time!

Because, for those of you that just don't know what I am talking about, I have a personal believe that there is something about a finished sweater that feels oh so different than other FOs. Especially when said sweater turns out the way you had hoped. Mainly, it fits. ha. Central Park Hoodie from Knitscene Fall 2006

Size 44''- with a gauge (5sts per inch) to make it 39.6"
Made with Cascade 220 Heathers- color Silver Spruce

Short row shoulder shaping and 3 needle bind off for the shoulders and hood.

Two inch ribbed button band and 4 inch ribbing everywhere else. Made with negative ease, to fit nice and close to the body. No buttons for me. Open and laid back, this CPH is just chill.

So glad this is done. It was starting to make me a little crazy(ier.) I became entirely consumed by shoulder seaming and picking up for the button band, and how they were not working out. Well, they did, and its done, and I am wearing it. So.. what's next?
And can I just say, I took these photos entirely by my lonesome. I no longer need Dan... I have mastered the camera timer!

Lots of stuff to blog about, not lots of time to blog. I've been good. Busy. How are yah?

Business at Messie Craftie has slowed to a reasonable pace and I am enjoying the extra knitting time. I've been plugging away on the CPH and managing a few small projects in between- like my Foliage made with some of my Apple Green Malabrigo worsted Christmas yarn! Mmmm. Love this yarn-
And I actually really like this pattern. I did not think I would either. It didn't seem like something I would enjoy knitting or wearing, but I really honestly enjoy/ed both. It was quick, and its fits wonderfully. I wear it to and from practice and work to keep my chlorinated locks from freezing. Perfecto! Speaking of chlorine...
I have officially started my new job at the YMCA where my masters swim team practices- I now teach swim lessons! Its my first official job in like, 2 years, and it started out rocky, but I am working things out. Swimming is also going really well! I don't really blog about it, because its not knittin' related, but I felt an urge to share. I am the current high point holder in my age group. (click on the current 2007-2008 season to see!) I am certainly not the fastest, but somehow I keep holding on. Its been really nice to be practicing semi regularly again, since it has been like 6 years since I have. It keeps me in shape and it gets me out of the house, which is always nice. Plus I love the competition. I do wish I could knit on the pool deck between heats at meets though. There are some places that knitting was never meant to be... wet, crowded, pool decks being one of them. Sigh. But the part time pool job will free up some yarn money so, though I can't knit at the pool, I can make money to buy yarn to knit somewhere else... at least that's what I am telling myself? Ah well. Whatever it takes to justify knitterly obsession. I shall knit (and swim) on.

Two years ago, right around this time, Momma was hoping you would come out because frankly, she was so sick of lugging you around in her stretch mark covered tummy, and no amount of labor seemed to make you want to move. You were extremely resistant, wanting nothing to do with coming out. You wouldn't drop, even after hours of labor. You were planted and that was that. So they had to take you out. And take you out they did. I should have known, when you came out screaming from a c-sec birth, what kinda kiddo you'd be.

You are by far the coolest thing that has ever happened to me and I love you to bits honey bun. You're a wild one, and (thank God you can't read) as much as that drives me bonkers, it makes me laugh so much. Its always a surprise with you. I never know what kind of stuff you are going to break or what's going to make you belly laugh in your giggly baby laugh. I love you Chubster. Happy Second Birthday baby girl.

I need to come up with a shirt with that on it. But seriously, as awkward and hellish as it was, it was good. Dan Kends and I had more than a perfect Christmas and that's all that matters.
I got some good yarn from Hubs! He really went above and beyond this year, with some Blue Moon STR and Leticia. He even picked some great colors! Red Rock Canyon for my STR and Pebble Beach for Leticia. Hes a keeper. Then, not only do I get these luscious gifts, but when all was said and done he comes back from taking the trash out with a bag and a big smile. "Santa left this on the porch for you" he says. Swoon.
In this gift bag were 2 skeins of Noro Kureyon and a skein of Araucania Cotton in a heavenly yellowey/sagey green colorway. I jumped right in-I had the Noro on the needles so fast! And, can you believe it, I have a finished object to share with you. I know. Shocking.

I love this scarf. I was worried that 2 skeins would not be enough. After a nice bath in my new Holiday Edition Soak (a gift from dad,) it was the perfect length. It bloomed/grew quite nicely. This is color 199. I am a huge fan of greens right now. This was right up my alley. There was a super cool teal in one of the skeins that I would love to knit a house cosy out of, but alas. I have a small bit in the scarf and that must do. I got a little silly there for a minute.
Now that I have got a few small projects out of my system, its time to start focusing on the CPH. I want to get it done before it gets too warm to wear it to death, yah know?
What else is there to tell you...hmmm...
OH-I also got a lot of sewing and cutting done over the holidays. Dan helped me cut a huge stack of sock pouches and diaper/wipes cases and I have been slowly listing them as I make them. I would love it it you'd stop by and have a peek. There is lots of new fabrics. Hurry- while you still have some Christmas cash to spare...

I have been so busy. Life for me has slowed up enough to breathe a little, and I have manged to squeeze in some knitting time. I have been working almost exclusively on my Central Park Hoodie and I really can't wait until its done and I can wear it if you know what I mean. I have had a strong urge to knit it for quite some time, and finally found a way to wiggle it into the schedule. I have finished the back, and after jacking up some directions, I am now working the right front. ( I probably should have worked them at the same time, but oh well. )

My portable knitting has been another pair of Hedera Socks. I had made my grandma a pair for Christmas, and I didn't feel like trying a new pattern. I did feel like rocking a new yarn though and boy did I- some merino/seacell blend from Zen Yarn Garden. This yarn is so fabulous I cant even begin to describe to you how fabulous it is. It shows off the stitch definition so well, and the colors have mingled so nicely. And it hardly fuzzes when being knit, which is something that personally bugs me. You need to buy some. Seriously.

I have been so busy. Like, up until 2 am busy. Stressed busy. No time to blog busy. Christmas knitting busy. But you know what? I love it. Why? Because stuff is getting done. That's why. I can deal with that. Celebrate it even.

On the knitting front, I have finished Dad's fingerless gloves. All that's left is a pair of socks and two bulky hats and that completes my Christmas knitting! EEP. (I hope I can do it. Is that unrealistic?) I also managed to finish most of my actual holiday shopping, which makes me extremely excited. I am actually looking forward to the holidays I think!?
In the Messie world, I have been listing new stuff as I make it. I have all of my large orders out and I can finally start concentrating on some new store stuff! I have a stack to iron and sew, and I look forward to listening to a little Jimmy and having a little something to drink while getting some much needed sewing done. Look for some new stuff over the weekend! Maybe I will join the Black Friday phenomenon and have a sale...

I am on knitter's overload, people. Nothing is keeping my attention and I just keep casting on new stuff. This is so so SO unlike me. I usually get super fixated on one project and cant eat or sleep until its done. Lately, I start a project and get a little ways into it and then I am like man- no way. I am bored. So then its onto something else. I'm scared. What's next? Drug abuse? It sure feels like it.

I currently have 4 projects on the needles. GASP. That should be illegal. (Drug abuse is- Why not yarn abuse?)
My wip's consist of 2 pairs of socks, a Rusted Root, and I just cast on a Central Park Hoodie. I am a little more into the back section of the CPH than the picture shows, but still. I am ashamed. I even have one other pair of socks on the needles, but they suck and I am frogging them, and that means they don't count. Nyah.
I hope that after I get a little caught up in my Messie world and my stress levels come back down to normal, my knitting will also calm down. I suppose at long as everything gets done, it will all work out in the end? Ah well. C'est la vie.

Annie's present, meant for April, finished in October, is ready for gifting. She is coming home from a long stay in Italy, and will arrive home early November. I have missed her terribly, as she is a good friend, and look forward to her being in the U.S. for a period of time. However long that is.
Anyways, I hope she likes it. She has been the recipient of quite a few ugly knits. I didn't know any better, but now I do. I hope this makes up for the uglies.

I really really hope she likes it. I will give you more details once she has it, and maybe even harass her for a picture of her wearing it for the blog.

The sock lottery!There is nothing quite like the gift of hand knit socks--Especially when you have been admiring them on your friends Ravelry. (She is LuluQ on Ravelry. You should add her as a friend because shes awesome. Tell her I sent you. ;)) But seriously, I don't know what it is, but I can't get enough hand knit socks. It seriously makes me way happy- even happier when I am totally not expecting them!
For someone that has never actually seen my huge feet in real life, (I don't think anyone should have to) she knit these up perfect. They fit like a dream- better than any pair of socks I have knit for myself. (Lulu, I am not lying, I swear!) And I think these are her second pair ever!? I am way impressed. They are wonderful. I fell in love with the colors and absolutely LOVE the striping. I keep staring at my feet. These will get plenty of love. I am so glad they are mine!

A little bag love.

Can you be smitten over a bag? I sure am! My new Namaste Everyday bag! Look!!This bag was an early Christmas present from my father. (Yeah, he out does himself. Rest assured, I never take advantage. He does this all on his own. He would be way worse if I did not stop him.) He knew how badly I wanted it, so he just went ahead and picked it up for me while he was at Bloomin Yarns. Now, he stopped by for business mind you. He does signs and Michelle (the owner) has been needing a new one. So- when in Rome? I guess thats how he thinks.

This is not only a really rad knitting bag, its a great purse/knitting bag, and would make a phenomenal overnight bag or diaper bag. I use one side for my purse stuff and the other for my knitting. It works out fabulously. I am so pleased. The straps are totally comfy, it stays open and closed very nicely, has lots of pockets and a separator compartment. It also has two outer pockets- one on either side of the bag. It has little metal feet to keep the bottom clean too. I have nothing but good things to say about this bag. I feel like I need more stuff to put in it!

Seriously, I am going to market my own postcards with that on it. I think it would help to drop one in the mail for someone that demands your attention. I mean that lovingly, for serious.

I am not complaining about being busy, just throwing it out there. You don't like it? Just send it right back. (I get the award for lamest, most irrelevant blogger. Self proclaimed.)

So anyways, in between school, Messie work, mothering, obligatory knitting and all that good stuff, I have managed to do a little of my own knitting. I am just about to turn the heel of my second GWTF sock, and Annie's scarf (yeah I blew it, she knows. I am a moron.) is getting to be a good length, but my knitting time has mostly been spent on the projects for Bloomin Yarns.

I have completed one of the 2 socks and all of the big part of the Noni bag. The second sock is giving me grief and should be done by now. Its the Shibui and its pooling in the worst way. I have tried it on 2 different needle sizes, ripped it out 3 times, and now the 4th try is going to be jaywalkers. I will conquer this sock, I will. I just may take 109234209585 years longer than it should to make a single sock. I guess this is to offset the fact that the first one only took 2 days to knit and went perfectly. Is there a such thing as knitting karma?

I got a blessed few baby-less hours yesterday afternoon (thanks to my father and a little thing called 'power wheels') to take a trip to my favorite yarn store, Bloomin' Yarns. Needless to say this was a blessing and a curse. I got a chance to chat and actually browse and not hurriedly grab without paying attention. I got to touch yarn people- without the reason being because I was prying it from Kendall fingers. This caused more money spending. I am sure you can relate- baby or no baby- that the more time you have the more you will buy. Or maybe I'm wrong? Anyways, I also got sent home with stuff to knit for the store, like this awesome Noni bag!

See whats under there? Yup. Messie Momma got some sock blockers. Talk about frivolous spending. I am ashamed. (Thus the smaller than necessary print.)

I also have the job of knitting 2 socks (for the store) out of two entirely different colors and brands of yarn, and I couldn't be more excited about this. I mean, Its like I have a reason to do what I am tempted to do every time I cast on a sock. I also bought a nice solid for my forest canopy shawl (Some Louet sportweight superwash) and some Addi Lace needles to try. Ah life is good.
Thanks dad, for so many reasons, but a word to the wise- never send me to the LYS with a blank check ever again. (Wait, what am I saying?) In my defense, I bought the sock blockers myself. That counts for something, right?

Sometimes I forget how much I like working on a particular wip until I- um- work on it again? That's the case with these plain socks. I had them in a drawer (in my messie bag!) ever since my cardigan was nearing its end.
So, cleaning up my yarn filled buffet, I found where I hid them and decided it was time they come out and breathe some fresh air.
Now they are demanding attention and I find it hard to resist paying attention to them. They are for no one, they are a pattern as I go (lord help me), and still I just want to keep plugging along. I am not prone to colds or flus (or any kind of sickness really) but when I do get sick, boy I get sick. I didn't sleep at all last night, and have been dealing with less than desirable stomach issues. To top it all off, Kends decided that she wanted to wake up at the crack of 5 this morning. We sat in the bath tub (near the toilet mind you) and 'played' in the water until 5:30 where I somehow managed to make her breakfast without puking. Its so hard being sick when you have a young child. No one tells you about this stuff. Well, no one told me. I put her back to bed out of sheer desperation and laid on the couch. I called my dad and asked him bring me some saltines and ginger ale and hang out with Kends until Dan could get home to take care of her. I don't think I have ever done that in the whole 2 years she's been on the planet.

I have so much to get done, and have no energy or desire to do anything. I have to take my Lit test tonight and I don't even care at this point. I have pretty much slept all day, taken 3 baths, eaten very little, and well you get the picture. I hope I feel better tomorrow, because if I don't, I have no idea what I am going to do. Probably freak out. And vomit.
Alright, enough of my pity party.
I finished my One Skein Wonder Sunday night. I wore it Monday, and no one said anything about it, so I imagine its not embarrassing. Its a little looser than I had hoped, but I think its the nature of the fiber. Cotton Ease just doesn't have that springiness that wool does. Oh well. Its done.
I started a ballband dishcloth/hand towel last night when I couldn't sleep. I thought it would distract me from the inevitable. Wrong. I got through a repeat and a half and that was the end of that.
Sigh...
I am such a whiner.

I sure do enjoy school. I mean it. I love learning and being challenged. Its great- exciting even- especially since its been a semester or, um, four. There is one thing that I sure don't like about school for certain- and that's the cost of textbooks. Egads.

I won't tell you how much that behemoth of a book set me back, but just know that I tried to get it out of the library first and my husband's books were far, far more expensive. They (colleges) will rob you blind if you let them people- buy used, and buy as late as humanly possible. Its worth the sleepless nights of catching up if you save 50 bucks- to me anyways.

I probably should be reading this week's assignments right now, instead of blogging about how textbooks cost too much money and how I stopped at Joann's to take advantage of "coupon commotion" to buy more yarn to cast on more projects and how this takes up precious school work/ work work time, but blogging was just too tempting. (<--whew, what a run on!) Its a darned good thing I have sleep issues, or nothing would ever get done. There's your answer people. That's how I get so much crap done with an almost 2 year old and way too much on my plate- I don't sleep.

I have decided to put my reading on hold even more (I am not looking forward to Margery Kemp) and start my new project immediately. I bought the One Skein Wonder pattern right before the price went up, and decided that right now was a good time to knit it. I wanted something quick, but wearable, and I wanted to try something not wool. I saw some people knitting this up with cotton ease on Ravelry and thought about coupon commotion and viola, here I am, back from Joanns smack in the middle of nap time, with needles and not book in hand. (<--theres another one for yah.) Now, if I had really thought this through, I might have picked a knit I could read to...

I am so excited about this. Not so much about the fact that the cardi is finished, but because It looks ok on me. See, sometimes, I still view myself as 60 lbs heavier. Its hard to get out of that mindset. Little occasions like this just make me so pleased with myself. I can knit clothes for myself and feel good about it. I can make something I will actually wear- that I can wear. Its such a great feeling.

I am looking forward to fall. The clothes fitting, the fall and winter knitting, long runs in the cooler weather, swim meets, craft shows, Kendall turning two...

Lame as it sounds, this sweater reminded me that I am not who I was this time last year. In body, or in mind. Cool.

I have had a pretty horrible day. It was a culmination of a lot of things- on top of being tired, stressed, cranky, and so ready for the weekend. As I am typing this, Kendall is throwing bits of cheddar rice cake all over the kitchen floor. Sigh.

Usually when I have these days, I get the baby in the car, drive around, and stop at the drive thru for my medium diet coke and Kendsie's french fries and take some time to cool off. Today, pulling out of the drive thru I made a detour to the local thrift store. I was so glad I did.
I like to stop there every few weeks or so and check out the children's (and adults) books. Sometimes I check if anyone dropped off any things of the yarn persuasion, but 99% of the time this never happens because Kendall will not last long enough. Thank goodness for french fries and Dr. Seuss, because under some clothing racks I found the motherload. Yarn people. 3 HUGE bins full- and not just acrylic. I must have got 15 free minutes from those french fries, god bless them, to examine the goods. I scoured through these bins, untangling someones carelessness. I found some amazing stuff- including some vintage virgin wool...

and 14 (120 yard) balls of superwash worsted wool in my favorite blue. The bin was marked with $1.09 a ball. I told the store owner that I had to do a lot of untangling to get to the yarn, and he gave them to me for-- are you ready for this?
I don't think you are... but I will tell you anyways...

My day had taken a turn. I swear, these balls of yarn, as insignificant as they may be to someone else, turned my crap day into a really nice one. I really hope the person that once owned this yarn would be pleased to know that someone that really appreciated it snatched it up and will make something (hopefully) very nice with it. Thanks whoever you are, wherever you are, for giving me something to smile about on my horrible day.

I wonder how long button bands take to knit? Did I mention this is my first ever cardigan? And rendez-vous with buttons?
Perhaps Kendall would like to knit the button bands. She apparently thinks she is an expert on cardigans. She is so critical of her mommy- see how she points out the parts she doesn't like?
You know, if you have young children, I have to tell you- unblocked, unfinished sweaters are apparently far more interesting to them than any TV, toy, or food on the market today. Though, an old chair does sometimes rival an unfinished sweater. Especially if it has arm rest holes large enough to crawl through. I am ready for a nap.

I wanted to show you guys my cardigan so badly, but the weather is ridiculous. Its really grey and it looks so dark and foggy and its pouring. (Kinda eerie actually.) Well, I guess thats pretty normal rainy day weather and not ridiculous, but I wanted to take pictures of knitting. How dare the clouds rain on my knitting photo-shoot parade? I decided that it was worth trying to take some pictures anyways, in natural light, and doctoring them. Talk about desperate. (Its because I am avoiding the sewing machine. This task of altering pictures really seemed more important right now. Can you blame me? I have been knit-starved.)
So here you go. My "doctored" almost done cardigan pictures. Lets start with the body shall we?

The color is so much deeper and brighter- in spite of my attempts to alter the photos. Its Cascade 128 in Persimmon and I think it may be my new favorite color. It was not my first choice in color, but I had a hard time finding Cascade 128 in good colors online, and picked persimmon in spite of its ugly picture, because it was the closest to what I envisioned. I prayed that when it made it here to my apartment, it would turn into the beautiful red color I desired. It did, thank God. (Jess 1, Sweater 0.) The 128 is a pretty great yarn to knit with and being chunky it knit up quick. I am working on sleeve number 2, then all thats left is the button bands and blocking. (Should I block before or after I pick up stitches for the button bands?)

This knit is kinda ugly not on. The ribbing gets all bunchy, and its reminiscent of a bell or an upside down pear of sorts. It looks good on the body though. Whether it looks good on mine is still debatable. Its a little tight right now in the ribbing area of the waist, but this is because I had a hard time getting gauge so I opted for smaller gauge in the larger size. Blocking this should make it fit perfect. ( I hope.) I probably could have knit the ribbing in one needle size larger, but I never think of those things until after I am done knitting of course. (It usually comes to me as I am binding off the last few stitches- how convenient.) Ribbing stretches out anyways. I would rather have it snug than really loose. Could this be incentive to lose a few more lbs? Maybe.
(I still have all of my bets on the blocking working out.)
Hope to finish this knit and get lots of knitting and knitting and knitting and sewing done this week- they are cleaning the pool at the Y. No swim practice for Miss Messie. Sniff sniff. I am sad... but not.

And can I just say thanks to everyone for their support of Messie Craftie? For serious. Its been awesome being able to share with you guys and get so much positive lovin' back. Lets all celebrate with a martini, shall we?

He's been looking a little down on his luck- like he needed to feel beautiful. I decided he needed to try on my most recent wip. I am glad I let him- because it really works for him- even half finished. The Persimmon compliments his skin tone. He couldn't help but smile- he saw himself in a new light- and a new career path! Any other day, I would have said no way caterpillar horsie, but today, he seemed born to wear fitted knit items. Tonight I looked through that low profile and I saw his true potential. I really think he's in the wrong business- he should be working the runway instead of my living room.
Look at that rear! I tell yah. He feels like a new man. (He told me so.) Even in a half finished woman's cardigan, he really can work a room. Destined for runway, I tell you.

I finished these on sunday. I still had plenty of Jitterbug left for another inch or so on each of the cuffs. I wished I would have kept going, but I didn't feel like ripping out a picot edging and picking up lace stitches. In the words of my younger friends, "Whatev."
OH- and I got a fabulous package in the mail from a friend today! In it were some wonderful goodies, including some Claudias Handpainted Yarn in the fabulous and totally me-ish, Carousel colorway. YUM. I immediately cast on for some toe up socks, and in celebration of 2 balls of the same yarn, both at once! YES. Had to share. This toe up thing is cool.
I also started my Cropped Cardi from Fitted knits last night. The knittin' has been good- (also) in the words of my younger friends, "FOSH."

I did it. I cast on for a pair of socks from the bottom up. DUDE. I feel like a bad arse. I know, I know. Its totally been done a gazillion times before- but not by me! Its my first time. Its a big deal for me. Humor me-pretend to be overly and obnoxiously happy for me.

My toenails are even excited. So is my redneck sandal tan line. Kendall is also pretty excited and expresses this by trying to remove needles from WIPs. Maybe she would sell well in my Etsy shop... its been one of those horrific, horrific days.
I really like these socks! I googled "toe up sock pattern" and it came up and it felt right. Especially because I had the Jitterbug in mind and know they needed to be rather short because of minimal yardage. I did my ridiculous excuse for a gauge swatch (which is knit a few rows, pull it off the needles and measure) and printed out 10 pages of cast on instructions and went to work. Thank GOD it was nap time. I picked it up rather quickly.
So tell me all of you toe up playas out there, do they seem to knit up quicker? Is the toe part a little shorter? Is it always a squarer toe? Do they look wider? How do you increase? Will I be lost when I get to the heel? Or is this just the initial excitement? I am such a toe up prude. Tell me all of the dirty secrets. Tell me what I must know.
I feel the sudden urge to spend money I don't have on sock yarn I really don't need...
Hopefully the shop update goes well on Friday...

Please excuse the cheesy smile. I was showing how happy I was to be finished with this evil-I mean- beautiful- sweater. Kends was also excited. So much so, she felt it necessary to run past the camera at every opportunity. I forgive her. Only because she is cute. I am not sure how I like it (the sweater, not Kends) on me, but that wasn't my knitting intention, to like it ON my body. I think it makes me look chunky in the tummie region. So, ah well.

I knit this pretty much how it's written following the corrections, except I added 2 inches of ribbing at the bottom. Its out of cascade 220 heather in the color sky I think... in case you were wondering. It was a quick knit- except for the ribbing. I think this is a trick of the mind because usually when you knit a sweater the bottom is only about 1.5 inches of ribbing, not like- 10. Whatever. Its over now and I can proceed to block this from memory. I just had to share before I lost my mind- and before I blocked it- just in case blocking did something crazy to it. It happens. Don't ask me how I know this.

Its entirely possible that I have spelled the word foreign wrong. I am not going to let this bother me. Moving on.
As you know, TTV has been on my needles. I have been bragging about how quick this was knitting up and then- as if fate was toying with me- I have hit the proverbial wall. The ribbing. Will this insanity ever end? It seems to go against all reason that something sleeveless and fitted would take so darned long. I have even had loads of time to knit on it, with the Etsy store being a little slow this week.

I tried it on last night- hoping - even praying to God that it would just be long enough. No, of course it wouldn't be long enough. I actually need to add length to the pattern. Its like some sick joke, and that joke is at my expense.
Sigh. Oh well, my little online biz picked up this week, and I have other things to distract me from that dreaded TTV. Gotta work on stocking the store! I am having big store update the evenin' of August third, for those interested. A new version of sock knitting bag, some more diaper cases, and a few other new little designs are in the making.
Now, I have a date with the road. Its time to get my run on.

I finally finished my LYS order. I dropped it off yesterday, and did not leave empty handed. Usually I snag up a skein of Yarn Pirate, but I felt like purchasing something I have never tried before. Jitterbug.
I haven't knit with it yet, but I like it. I like the colorways a lot. I feel like they are different and bright, and thats right up my alley. In other knitting news, I cast on. Finally.
It was 10 at night, and all I had to work with was the yarns and needles in my stash (and the local Wal-mart's selection, but I was not quite that desperate). I have had loads of this sky blue heather color of cascade 220 since winter, and I'm in the garment knitting mood. I've been spending less time on the net looking at patterns and its got me spending more time with my nose in my knitting books. Lately its been Fitted Knits. I hoped it would give me my next project. I had a few in mind, and after careful elimination, It was down to the Perfect Periwinkle turtleneck tube vest and the Back to School u- neck vest. Turtleneck won out.

I have to admit, its not because I like turtlenecks. I actually hate turtlenecks. It was that it was truly seamless that lured me in. Perhaps the fact that the turtleneck looked like a quick knit and was a project that I had yarn and needles for right that second also played a key role in the decision making, I can't be sure. I did have a slow start, due to the heavy errata on the beginning of this particular sweate,r but I am off and running now. So far, I really like it. I may even wear it. Only time/finishing will tell. I started on Sunday, and I am right under the bust. Sweet. I hope to finish this weekend... so I can start The Short-Sleeved Cardigan with ribbing. Did I mention how much I love Fitted Knits?

Colorful and soft- even a little fuzzy. Stretched pretty thin in a few places, but reliable. A little thick- maybe even dense- but not terribly so. Unwilling to change in a few areas. Still, beautiful? In an imperfect way?

I probably could have knit these on the size 1 needles I started with. Looking back on the photos in the book, I see that they were meant to fit looser. Mine are snug, though still comfy. Plus the pooling I got on the smaller needles was unsatisfactory-in my personal sock knitting opinion. I have a few spots on each sock where I still had a little pooling action going on, but I think it gives the socks character. After all, they are socks that I feel represent me... don't I have a little character? No?
I now officially have one thing on the needles. Its time to cast on.

I think my LYS owner may think I am crazy.

I call at least once a week to ask some random question- then I end up babbling- on and on and on.
Then, when I am actually In the store, I am even worse. Surrounded by all of that yarn I lose the ability to form correct sentences, or end up telling her about everything I have on the needles before I make the connection that she very well may not care. She is always smiling at me and very sweet to me, and I am not sure if its because she thinks I am slightly insane, or just a SAHM that doesn't get out much. Either way, its embarrassing and makes me feel like a ginormous dork. I even called my husband at work to tell him that I think she may be a tad annoyed with me. He assured me with the amount of money I spend there, she should have no problem talking with me or answering my questions and after all, it is a business. I suppose that is true. Still.
I guess, the thing is I really like her (as a LYS owner)- and her shop- and the opportunities she has given me with selling my bags in her store. I would hate to think I get on her nerves. You know?
I feel even dorkier that I felt the need to blog about it. I think I really do have issues- far worse than I thought. Or perhaps this is simply a sign of PMS. I am hoping for the latter.

PS- I have reached the instep of sock 2 and did a set of repeats on Annie's project...
This makes me feel better about my mental state.

I am hot. Tired. A smidge overwhelmed. Though, all for good reason.
I miss knitting. A lot. Socks, though I love them, are not cutting it. Its not enough for me. I need to start something new- something not sewing. For this to happen, I think I need to find a way to manufacture the time to work on the knitting that I hunger for.
So anyways, this particular weekend I brokenly worked to the heel of my second sock and messed around on a new Etsy bag model while it was still fresh in my head. I am pleased.
So pleased in fact, I am going to inundate you with pictures.

I am the worst at catchy blog titles. Just pretend I am witty and cool.

My de-stress project is these socks. (remember these?) I can only find time to knit in the car to and from places right now. Sometimes while visiting people I manage a repeat or two as well. All of my free time at home is now spent behind the sewing machine. I was not anticipating such a great little boom at Messie Craftie. Its a total blessing, and I am still shocked. I have 2 wholesale orders in the works, and one custom! The more orders that I get, the more excited I get. I can't believe people want something I made!? Its really an incredible feeling but still has a tendency to make me nervous. What if they don't like it? Though, once I get my feedback, I breathe a huge sigh of relief. Anyways, Handmade is back baby. I love that people support the crafters of the world. Buy handmade!

As for my socks, they are handmade, but not for sale, duh. The colors please me greatly, (thanks again, poops!) and this pattern, if you were wondering, is the first pattern in Favorite Socks (Gosh I love that book). Its knitting up kinda thick, but I think its because I could only get gauge on size 0 needles, and the pattern called for like 2s. They will be mighty toasty. I half wished I knit them plain vanilla style, to really showcase the colors in this yarn. I still think they look darned good. I keep trying it on, hoping the second sock will just materialize right before my eyes.

Don't worry Anne. I haven't forgot about you. Your secret project is still close to my heart. Hopefully I will get you a bag made and in the mail before you are on your way back home as well...

The shrug is finished, and I love it! Its made from good old fashioned cascade 220, knit on Addi Turbos size 6 and 3. I started 2 Saturdays ago and I finished on Wednesday night. Such a quick knit! I could have been done even sooner, but stuff gets away from me. You know how it is.

This knit is seriously the best thing I have ever made for myself. Its great quality, Its spot on with its gauge, the sleeve length is perfect, It fits me amazingly, I totally love the colors, and I would actually wear it. Seriously. I found myself contemplating winter evenings when I would actually be able to wear it with comfort. Which is really scary, because I hate winter. I can't wait to make another. I'm already thinking about colors.

Taking the knitting on the road.

I am one of the blessed people that can knit in the car. Armed some with some yarn, knitting needles, and the goal of finishing this shrug in time for the show, I was a woman on a road trip mission. I had 2 hours. Did I finish? No. Not even close. (What can I say- I'm a dreamer.) I knit non stop on the way to the show, a bit at the show, and the whole way home- in the dark. I was extremely proud about the knitting in the dark thing. Really, I was that determined. I suprised myself, but still did not finish. I am close though. I made it to right before the increases at the neck, but after really messing up reading directions and lots of frogging, I am back to right before the increases again. Which, after posting, I will sit down and "enjoy" the View and a little knitting. (I don't really enjoy the View. Come to think of it, it angers me and still I have no idea why I am compelled to watch it.) Onto show stuff.
We usually try and see Dizmas as much as we can when they are on the east coast. For us, it means the show we usually put on in Pittsburgh, and something about 1.5 to 2 hours away. Its a chance to get out, enjoy some time to talk to each other on the small road trip, get a break from the baby, and see a good ol' fashioned rock show we can totally enjoy because we are not running things. It was good stuff.

The show was great. We got a chance to see Willet and Memphis Belle (which I particularly enjoyed) as well as Dizmas. We also got a chance to talk to friends and be silly, which is always fun. So fun. The drive was a breeze both ways, and the night itself was totally fun and so worth the drive.

I have been feeling like I have a life lately. Its a good feeling! I am getting out, having fun, Etsy is going great, knitting is wonderful, life is good. I am so blessed. I hope this keeps up.

Since I started knitting! I love this project. I need to shut my mouth before all hell breaks loose on it though. Its easy enough, but you never know.
I was really questioning myself on this one. Was this really a good knit for me? And the colors- were they too bright? TOO much? The more I knit on, the better I feel. I have one sleeve completely finished and the other one just needs the ribbing, then its onto the last bit of ribbing and its allllllll mine. I tried on the finished sleeve, and even half finished, I can see the end result and I am simply in love. I am so pleased with this project (and the book), and its not even finished yet! I bought the one skein wonder pattern because I love this two tone shrug pattern so much. Oh dear. Is it really normal to get this excited about knitting?
